Prestige: slim design and 1.5 L capacity

Decanting, pouring and cleaning

Pour wine slowly into the Prestige carafe, especially if an older bottle contains sediment. Its slim silhouette is intended for serving as well as presentation. The stainless steel cleaning beads included with the decanter can help reach areas that are difficult to clean by hand.

For a very different silhouette, compare the Infinité Decanter.

Prestige or Royal: choose by shape

The hand-blown Prestige (1.5 L) has a slender profile for gentle pouring and an elegant table setting. The Royal (1.7 L) has a wider base for extra air contact. Both have room for a standard 750 ml bottle. For an integrated aerator, compare the Montagne.

More about the Prestige Decanter

The Prestige Decanter by Mémoire is a 1.5-litre hand-blown carafe with a slim, elegant shape. The decanter is designed for decanting, aerating, and stylishly serving wine. Pouring wine from the bottle into the carafe increases its contact with air, while the shape ensures a polished presentation at the table.

Decanting and aerating wine

For young or robust wines, extra contact with oxygen can help bring out the aromas. Pour the wine gently into the Prestige and give it the time appropriate for that specific wine. There is no set decanting time for every wine, which is why tasting occasionally is the best way to monitor its development.

A decanter can also be used for older wines to separate sediment from the wine. In that case, pour slowly and carefully so that the sediment remains in the bottle as much as possible. Older wines can be more sensitive to prolonged contact with air.

Slim design with a 1.5-litre capacity

The 1.5-litre capacity provides enough room for a standard 750 ml wine bottle without filling the carafe completely. This leaves space around the wine for air contact.

The slim design of the Prestige gives the carafe a different appearance compared to wider models and makes it suitable for those seeking a refined decanter for the table, during a dinner, or at a wine tasting.

Hand-blown glass

The Prestige is hand-blown. As a result, small differences between individual carafes may occur. These subtle variations are part of the hand-blown glass production process and make every carafe slightly unique.

Cleaning the Prestige

After use, it is best to rinse the decanter with lukewarm water as soon as possible. The included stainless steel cleaning beads help reach spots on the inside of the carafe that are difficult to clean by hand.

Rinse the carafe and the cleaning beads carefully after use and let both dry completely before storing them.

Decanting wine explained

Decanting wine means carefully pouring it into a carafe before serving. This serves two important purposes: separating the wine from any sediment and allowing it to breathe . Exposure to oxygen rounds out the aromas, softens them, and adds complexity.

The effect is greatest when the wine is gently agitated. A well-designed decanter increases contact with oxygen, allowing the wine to aerate more quickly and its aromas to develop more fully.

Step 1: Prepare the wine

Stand older wines upright before opening the bottle to allow sediment to settle to the bottom.

Step 2: Pour into the carafe

Pour slowly and carefully, leaving the sediment in the bottle. For younger wines, you can pour a little more vigorously to add more oxygen.

Step 3: Let the wine breathe

After pouring, let the wine rest for a while.

  • Young wines: 15–30 minutes
  • Old wines: 10–15 minutes

Step 4: Enjoy the result

Decanting removes sediment, allows the wine to breathe, and enhances both aroma and flavor. This allows each wine to reach its full potential – exactly as the winemaker intended.

FAQ

What is the purpose of decanting?

Decanting separates the wine from any sediment and allows it to breathe. This releases aromas more effectively, resulting in a smoother, fuller flavor.

How long should you decant wine?

Young red wines usually need 15–30 minutes to decant. Older wines are best decanted for a shorter period to preserve their delicate aromas.

Which wines benefit most from decanting?

Especially full-bodied red wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. Some full-bodied white wines can also benefit from a little aeration.

Can you decant wine for too long?

Yes. Too much oxygen can weaken the flavors and aromas, especially in older wines. Therefore, decant these wines just before serving.

How exactly does a decanter work?

A well-designed decanter increases the contact between wine and oxygen. Gently swirling or moving the wine aerates it more quickly, allowing its aromas to fully develop.
